Awareness! The Headphone App App Reviews

Really works

Five stars because it does what it claims to do. Also I believe its such a great safety feature that it should come implemented by Apple by default.

I wonder, what the goal of the developers of this app really is. ...

... Is it to make customers angry, as soon as they discover that it will cost them about 6,50€ of in-app purchases to unlock all features the app currently has to offer? Each of these "add-ons" is 0,79€ or more. Why pay for a sinlgle feature? The same Money could buy whole apps. Tss, tss, tss ... ... Is it to prevent potential customers (provided they are smart enough to take a look at the ridiculous expensive in-app purchases before they push the buy button) from making the purchase of the app at all? ... Is it to demonstrate to the world, that the same human beings that are smart enough to develop sophisticated software can be completely stupid when it comes to marketing strategy? ... Is it to prove, that intelligence and arrogance often go hand in hand? Well then, maybe its not arrogance but rather stupidity (again) to believe that a sufficient number of people will be ready to waste their money on a product like this app, to repay the time invested in building it. Whatever! I recommend to download this app as long as its free and rate it the one star it deserves for showing that in the capitalistic world of ours, greed once more triumphed over reason and respectful interaction with customers! Oh, this is the Apple app store. Sorry, I forgot.

Uninstalling Now

App seems to work but it ruins the screen of your iPhone. Installs a big red bar at the top of your screen that flashes on and off like a goal light in a hockey game. How obnoxious and egotistical. It is hardly my most important app. Seems no way to uninstall this "feature". Get a life.

Potential but not quite there

First its not worth 5 bucks. The idea is good but the problem is the mic sensibility especially when walking. The mic touch your shirt an then it automatically starts. I would wait.

Be careful

I bought this thinking it would be awesome. Well it was. It does everything it says it can. Only problem is, where do you put your ipod? In your pocket? Not with this. Your pocket makes tons of noise. The only places you can use this are if you are sitting at a desk, or maybe jogging with it in your hand (which will probably still make noise for the microphone to pick up. Good app, just think about how useful it will be to you first.

Needs improvement

Overall great concept, but until some bugs get fixed I cant with good conscious give a 5 star rating. I use Bluetooth headphones on the subway daily as the cramp space gets wires tangled and figured this app would be ideal for hearing stops or if someone needs my attention but the lack of Bluetooth is a disappointment. The sound quality is very muffled and echoed, I realize its not about clarity but about function but I find it very distracting. Im worried about battery usage, I havent been using it long but have noticed a strain on my battery. Lastly, the price isnt worth it. With enough early adopters like myself finding out there are problems with a price that should demand quality, theyll have to reduce the price eventually. My recommendation; hold off! Ill rate 5 stars when these issues have been addressed.

Awesome

Such a great idea for an app. You can have full conversations with people while listening to your music(y)

Wow great

This app will save lives if you listen to music buy this app it is a must have. Dont miss anything, wanna be save running biking listen to music. Must buy worth more than 5$

awareness is useful

this app is really good if you are a person like me who likes to talk with friends but still want to listen to music without having to turn the volume down or only put headphone in your ear. you have to get this app while its still cheap!!!($2.99)

Awesome

Now I can hear my dogs if they bark, and listen to music. Also, it uses in in-line mic if you have one so pocket noise is not an issue.

Barely worth a buck at this point

Found completely useless while riding a bike......that is unless you like listening to the wind and/or your breath instead of music. At speeds of over 35kph wind and your breath become a constant!!! The purpose for which the app is designed does not work, as mike is worn on the front of your body which causes terrible startling effect when a car goes by (sound starts as car is RIGHT beside you) . As far as conversation is concerned , all I have found is that my voice is amplified but the other persons voice is missed unless I constantly ask the other person to speak up. There is potential with this product.... but not worth a cent at this point. As a matter of fact you lawyers out there might want to start handing out cards to cyclists using this product as a defensive riding product??!!

Clever, but flawed

I have to give props to the author of the app for the clever idea, but as it is, I dont think Ill get much use out of this app. I own a pair of in-ear buds with an inline mic. They block out a bit too much of the surroundings for my comfort, and I hoped this app would remedy this. The problem is that the mic doesnt pick up any distant sounds. Youre not likely to hear a friend calling out to you, for example. The mic trigger ends up being a distraction with its cutting in and out for gusts of wind, big trucks, etc. I think the app might work better if you are indoors in a quiet area and need to hear the doorbell, but for outdoor use I cant recommend it.

Totally Awesome

Now I can listen to music at work and hear those who come in to my office. Note: For those who have mic issues. You should consider trying high end ear buds. Remember, you get what you pay for. I have BOSE earbuds and they work great with this software.

Another use for this great app

Am I the only one doing this? No reviewer has mentioned my use of the device. Im a casual drummer, meaning so far, I do all my drumming alone, in a room in my basement. Naturally, I wear ear protection - either in-ear monitors or cans. That cuts the decibels, but it makes my toms sound like cardboard, and my cymbals sound like garbage can lids. This program is my solution. I plug into the iPhone and turn on this app. I set the threshold quite low; I want it to pick up all the ambient noise, i.e. my drumming. (But not as low as it can go; this program is so sensitive, it would pick up my own breathing.) Then I switch over to my metronome app (I use Tempo) or a music track Im playing to. Now I can have a click track or music in my ear phones, along with my drumming. The drum volume is cut, but Awareness! does a fair job of feeding in a range of tones, unlike the cans that distort as they muffle. Its far from perfect; a pair of good in-ear plugs would do a better job of maintaing accurate sound, but those guys cost around $200 and you cant feed your click track or music in. Right now I use single-driver headphones from Zagg. Tolerable for music, but lousy for drumming, because it just cant deliver the lows. Im thinking of going to custom-molded, dual-drives from Alien Ears or Westone. With the great sound from those, combined with Awareness!, I should have something. When I play with a band, Ill plug into a real system with those buds. Anyway, Id be interested to hear from anyone else who is using the app this way, or from the developers if you have any comments. mark

Very good

Wonderfull app! Bluetooth would be nice! Thank you for your work.

Does not work in iOS 6

I like this app, but I wanted to let the developers know that in iOS 6 it gets horribly distorted when you turn the mic volume up.

No environment noise in mix

While the mic in my headphones cause the sound to duck, I get no environment sound in the mix. Perhaps an iOS 6 issue that will be addressed. Disappointed thus far. Horrible documentation too.

App Purchases make me laugh

I purchased this when it was first out and featured by Apple. I thought it would be better than it was so I never used it. I see this new update so I may retry it. When I saw your in app purchase options I laughed to myself. Charging people per little minor feature that should be included with the app is ridiculous and I dont think it will be very successful.. sorry.

Great app

Needs a couple tweaks but does everything that it claims. That is refreshing.

Works as advertised

Would love the ability to select which mic to use. Ie: headset or internal mic.
